Vintage Doilies and Vintage Beads

I sold one of my Vintage Doilies in my store at Cortex Street Emporium in Prescott, Az. I was so excited for Doilies are one of those lost Arts today. My purpose now is to show that they can be a REDISCOVERED ART FORM with TODAYS FASHIONS in CLOTHING, JEWELRY and in HOME DECOR! Here is my latest macrame jewelry piece: Macrame Choker.

I am getting my home ready for Thanksgiving and I am decorating with Doilies and Beads! I am having so much fun because the Beads help bring out the colors of Fall and Christmas and when the lights hit them, what a beautiful glowing Tablescape!

My Macrame Necklace

Here is my newest macrame necklace! I enjoyed working on this one due to the Unique Meaning of the Knots!

BeadJeweled is a nickname for our Bead Projects. Here we will share photos and some How-To's in the Art of Creating Jewelry and accessories with Macrame or Crochet!

My BeadJeweled Project for the month of October!

PROSPERITY NECKLACE

Display your favorite Pendant with this Elegant necklace pattern. It combines a centrally placed prosperity knot balanced by coin knots on either side, separated by Tunisian Antique Metalized(look like metal) Beads.

The Prosperity Macrame knot has the appearance of a sequence of double coin knots. In China the double coin knot represents long life and prosperity as its shape represents two overlapping coins.

You can find the pattern of this necklace in the book: 75 Chinese, Celtic, & Ornamental Knots by Laura Williams & Elise Mann.

Changing Careers 2

It has been almost a year now since I retired from full-time Line-Cooking. I have had the time to get out those books with projects I have always wanted to make.
I have been learning the Art of Macrame again!
I dabled with plant hangers and Owls and such years ago when my Mom encouraged me to try. Now I am finding that Macrame is coming back as an Art with the Jewelry Making Artists! Belts/Braclets/Earrings/Keychains and etc. all done in MINITATURE MACRAME KNOTS!
Well I like to make the BIG stuff and maybe later I will get brave to try more of the Macrame Jewelry!
Here is my latest project and more photos to come.

Chocolate Trivia

"YOUR AGE BY CHOCOLATE MATH "

1. First of all, pick the number of times a week that you would like to have chocolate (more than once but less than 10)

2. Multiply this number by 2 (just to be bold).

3. Add 5.

4. Multiply it by 50 -- I'll wait while you get the calculator.

5. If you have already had your birthday this year add 1760. If you haven't, add 1759.

6. Now subtract the four digit year that you were born. You should have a three digit number The first digit of this was your original number (i.e., how many times you want to have chocolate each week).
The next two numbers are YOUR AGE! (Oh YES, it is!!!!!)

I thought this was food fun to share with you! Share your favorite food trivia as a comment!

You will see a new ad up top now on my blog pages and I encourage you to click on it and visit! It is the most unique site for food bloggers to socialize and enter contests!

Hi all! Here are some more Youtube comments to share from our videos!! Our responses are below the comment! Enjoy and leave your comments and questions here too!

seeding your pan for a video is weak.
billbehl 5 months ago

For all viewers, I apalogize for the language in this video. Chris and I don't " seed" or "highgrade" our videos. We had just detected a bucket of material on a board, and flipped our readings in the pan without looking to see what they were. That pan surprised us as much as it does our viewers! Of course, we have plenty of videos of "dead" pans, and "hot" rocks that we dig, but they don't seem to have the same effect as gold in the pan does!

Why dont you just classify the rest of the dirt there? I'm sure you'll find more if you pan it; Heck, man, I'll go with you and you get the nuggets and I'll snipe the rest of the hole!!
ClintL63 5 months ago

Chris and I detect, pan sample, and vacuum our ground and run samples through our highbanker to make sure we don't leave gold in the ground for "snipers" !!! Thanks for viewing!

did you get the new gold bug? i found a small peice with my gb se... :)
jessgo33 6 months ago

No, I haven't gotten a new Gold Bug yet. My original does everything I need to find gold. I am planning to get the new one in the near future, as a back -up, in case mine goes down, and I can't find replacement parts. Glad to hear you are having some success! Lots more luck to you! Buddy and Chris
cindipom 5 months ago

I will keep playing with it. Iv been reading the manual and trying to get it to settle down in all metal mode.
jessgo33 1 year ago

I just got the new gold bug SE. Its cool, but I have never owned a detector befor, and don't have a clue how to use it. I hope mine works as good as yours.
jessgo33 1 year ago

Practice with a small piece of gold, mixed in with some gravel, about 1/2 - 3/4 in thick, on a piece of plywood. Make sure the plywood is set on something not metal, off the ground a few inches. Chris and I are going to check out the new gold bug as soon as the local prospecting shop gets some in, and when I figure out the best settings, maybe I'll have more info for you. Good Luck! Buddy

Wow nice peice of gold.. Wtg gold bug.. Awsome
jessgo33 2 months ago

Thanks for watching! We hope to be working more often and making more information videos. Hope you're having good luck with your detector.
cindipom 2 months ago

i am a little confused abuot vlf vs. the pi . i bounght a lorenz 2 deep seeker to hunt meteorites , but changed my mind and decided to hunt for nuggets . it does sound on gold pretty good , but the gold has to be fairly big about the size of a small bolt . what is your idea on the advantage or disadvantage of the pi . will the silver content in small nuggets help the pi see it ? i have not been in the field with it yet.
7troding 7 months ago

I'm not familiar with your detector. Remember, meteorites are made up mainly of irons, and mostly nickel. Finding them with a metal detector should be relatively easy if your are in an area where they occur. Gold doesn't occidize or "halo" like iron or nickel, or coins, so you have to work with your detector a little to find little pieces of gold. Try setting your detector to ALL METAL, and work with a small piece of gold placed on a plywood board, covered with a little dirt.
cindipom 5 months ago

That thing is a monster... Congrads.. How much did it weigh? I never new that a gold bug was so good. Im just trying to get into detecting. I live in Northern california and the old timers found a 54 lb nugget like 10 minuts from my house. so im trying to find some gold..
jessgo33 1 year ago

That's a 3.2 gram nugget(50 grains) We have some good sized gold on the claim, it's just hard digging to get to it. You should be in some pretty good gold country in CA. When you get your detector, give a holler if you have any more questions on detecting or prospecting. Buddy

Desserts That Are Good For You

Raspberry Frozen Yogurt

This frozen yogurt, exotically flavored with rose water, is much lower in sugar than store-bought frozen yogurt. Serve scoops on their own, or pile into sundae glasses with fresh fruit and mint.

Serves 8

Ingredients:
1 pound raspberries
4 tablespoons seedless raspberry jam
2 tablespoons rose water (optional)
1 pound plain nonfat yogurt
3 tablespoons confectioners’ sugar, or to taste
Raspberries for garnish
Fresh mint for garnish

Preparation:
1 Put the raspberries into a saucepan and add the raspberry jam. Warm over a low heat until the raspberries are pulpy, stirring occasionally, about 5 minutes.
2 Press the raspberries and their juice through a sieve into a bowl; discard the seeds in the sieve. Stir in the rose water, if using. Whisk in the yogurt until smoothly blended. Taste the mixture and sweeten with sugar.
3 Pour into an ice-cream machine and freeze according to the manufacturer’s instructions. When you have a smooth and creamy frozen mixture, spoon it into a rigid freezer proof container. Freeze for at least 1 hour. If you do not have an ice-cream machine, pour the mixture straight into a large freezer proof container and freeze until set around the edges, about 1 hour. Beat until the mixture is smooth, then return to the freezer. Freeze for 30 minutes, then beat again. Repeat the freezing and beating several times more until the frozen yogurt has a smooth consistency, then leave it to freeze for at least an hour.
4 If storing in the freezer for longer than 1 hour, transfer the frozen yogurt to the fridge 20 minutes before serving to soften slightly. Decorate with raspberries and mint, if desired.

Per serving: 80 cal, 0 g fat (0 g sat), 18 g carbs, 3 g protein, 4 g fiber, 1 mg chol, 36 mg sodium, 104 mg calcium

Some Healthy Tips:

Eat the Three Bs

Among the healthiest foods on the planet, these grains are high in the fiber and nutrients that are perfect for healthy blood sugar and metabolism. Not to mention, they’re hearty and delicious. Here’s how to cook with them.
Barley. Use it as an alternative for pasta or rice, or sauté it with veggies for a side dish. Chill it and make a barley salad with herbs, dressing, and a sprinkling of Parmesan cheese.
Bran. Use it to replace half the flour in muffin recipes. Mix it into meat loaf or sprinkle bran flakes on casseroles.
Bulgur. (also called kasha) Make bulgur pilaf as a side dish or use the grain cold to make a salad such as tabbouleh. Cook hot bulgur cereal in salted water as you would oatmeal.

Serenity For Home Entertaining

ANNOUNCEMENT:

More Oils and Insense coming in FRIDAY, May 13th!
Later in JUNE more WATERFALLS Too!

When it comes to Entertaining At Home, not only planning the meal, the atmosphere( feeling you want to come across to your guests ) must be created.
You can achieve this with burning oils, insense or candles within your Tablescape Setting!

Here are some tips:

***THE ART OF CREATING TABLESCAPES*** Anyone can become a Tablescape Artist! The best place to create your arrangement of your special objects is on a coffee table, mantel or a dining room table. Arrange your items in groups of three, five or seven. Place the tallest such as candlesticks in the background. Place a bowl or clock in the middle and end with the flat items in front such as a tray, book or small picture frame. Use your favorite heirloom or new textile linens and doilies with the objects. Make an arrangement of items of the same theme such as for Christmas or for the New Year! The point of creating a tablescape is to use items you find interesting.---- " What is important is not how valuable or inexpensive your objects are, but the care and feeling with which you arrange them."----David Hicks(1929-1998)----British Interior Designer

Creation Title: CARD PARTY

Back in the day, this photo is Buddy(my husband) and I. We had this picture taken at Buckskin Joe, an old western town in Canon City, Colo. Beer Can Chicken

This recipe was too good not to share with you. Great for your camp-outs! Thanks for visiting!

BEER CAN CHICKEN
The liquid from the beer can creates steam that helps cook the chicken from the inside and keep it moist and delicious
In the past decade, whole chickens mounted on beer cans have become a familiar sight at backyard barbecues the country over. And for good reason: The liquid creates steam that helps cook the chicken from the inside and keep it moist. Also, standing the chicken up vertically means the legs (which take the most time to cook) are exposed to the most intense heat, meaning the bird will cook evenly without drying out the breast. The result: one of the tastiest chickens imaginable with no heavy sauces or sides.

You'll Need:
1 chicken (3-4 lb)
24 oz Coca-Cola
3/4 tsp salt
Freshly cracked pepper
1 can beer

How to Make It:
*Combine the chicken and the Coke and soak overnight in the fridge (or for at least 2 hours).

*Heat a grill. If using charcoal, bank the hot coals to one side to create a cooler section for indirect cooking. If using a gas grill, leave one section of burners off and the others set on medium. Remove the chicken from the soda and dry all over. Rub with salt and pepper.

*Open up the beer can; drink half of it. Mount the chicken on top of the beer can, running the can through the chicken's cavity until it's firmly lodged and can stand up on its own. Place on the cooler side of the grill, cover, and cook until a thermometer inserted into the thigh reads 160F, about 1 to 1 1/2 hours. You can baste the chicken with your favorite barbecue sauce in the last 20 minutes or so, but it's so moist, you don't really need it.

Traditional Favorite

PINEAPPLE UPSIDE-DOWN CAKE

You can never go wrong with serving your guests a traditional family favorite!
A colorful dessert, good either hot or cold.
Preparation and cooking time: 1/1/4 hours

Topping:
1/3 cup plus 1 tablespoon dark brown sugar.
6 tablespoons of margarine.
1 can sliced pineapple, drained.
Maraschino or candied cherries, cut in half.

Cake:
1/2 cup margarine
1/2 cup granulated sugar
2 eggs
1 cup self-rising flour

For the topping, cream together the brown sugar and margarine and spread all over the base of an 8-inch round cake pan.
Arrange the pineapple slices on top and place a half-cherry in the center of each.
Prepare the cake batter by creaming together the margarine and the granulated sugar until light and soft.
Beat in the eggs.
Sift and fold in the flour.
Carefully pour over the pineapple and spread evenly.
Bake at 350 degrees for 45-50 minutes.
Let stand 5 minutes before turning upside down onto serving plate.

Food Notes:

Have you tried organic dried fruits?
I have used dried pineapple slices and the flavor was Incredibly Delicious!

When you use regular flour it is usually recommended 1 level teaspoon of baking powder per 1 cup of flour.

Also for a extra moist cake I add 1/4 cup of pineapple juice.

Just before turning your cake upside down use a thin knife or spatula and loosen the edge of cake.

Ever thought of using your well-seasoned dutch-oven cast iron pan for this recipe?
I did and with wonderful results.

A well seasoned cast iron pan is never washed with dish soap! Believe me, I learned this from my mom! You let water simmer in it till food releases from pan; pour out liquid and let pan dry over low heat. Then you rub the inside of pan with vegetable oil, pat with paper towel if needed.
