Covid-19 Family Endeavors Change

Image
IT HAS BEEN A WHILE SINCE WE POSTED! 2020 HAS NOT BEEN A GREAT YEAR FOR ANY OF US DUE TO THE COVID-19 EPIDEMIC. STAYING AT HOME HAS BROUGHT ABOUT A LOT OF CHANGES IN OUR ENDEAVORS. CINDY HAS COMPLETLY RETIRED FROM WORKING FOR OTHERS. SHE NOW HAS BECOME A FARMER! RAISING CHICKENS! HERE IS HER BIO! I grew up in the country, in Colorado. My mother raised chickens, pigs and calves given to her from a nearby feedlot. As a teenager, I remember those days of feeding the calves with the buckets that had nipples for their formula. I had a pet pig that was the runt of a litter. I called him, glut-glut. I easily got attached to animals less perfect. I married and we spent our honeymoon in Colorado, part of which was a visit with my mother at her country home. I remember waking up in the morning to roosters crowing, a hen talking in her broody talk, a squeal from a baby pig, geese alerts, and calves mooing to be fed! You see mom had a house with a side porch all along the side of house of which ...

2017 Life On The Farmette

Image
Time to reflect on this year's adventures on the farmette here in Mayer. Lots of photos!   This is our soon to be screen house for our garden. It will be organic and preditor free.     Next step after painting the floor base Buddy is putting together one of four sides. The floor base has given him a nice level area to work on.   This is Buddy putting together the third wall on the floor base of the greenhouse. Using the sides of the first two walls. Genius!     Third wall painted and attached! Starting to look like a Greenhouse. Door is next.   Two thumbs up!     Greenhouse door is finished and hung!  The strusses put together and up.   Our Farmette Screen House for Container Gardening.   Our backyard garden arbor/fence is finished! Used the redwood posts from James and Veronica's wedding.  Now due to the Goodwin fire the sky is not beautiful. Hope all is still here in a week. LOL!   Our lit...

Christmas Bliss

Image
MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL MY FAMILY, MY FRIENDS AND MY FAITHFUL FOLLOWERS HERE AND ON MY FACEBOOK PAGE! I found a Tablescape for the Holidays I have to share with you  From ELLE DECOR!! TABLESCAPE TIPS Interior designer  Brian J. McCarthy  loves to entertain. And whether it's a detailed celebration planned months in advance or a dinner party pulled together the day-of, setting the table always comes first. Here, he shows us how he sets up for a holiday party with a look inspired by his interiors and his guests.   Avoid obtrusive centerpieces. If your flower arrangement is so elaborately large that you can't see the guests across the table, then it's time to downsize.  McCarthy adores this glass tree sculpture he found in Paris. It's tall, but its translucence allows for cross-table conversations. STEP 1: BRING IN A COLORFUL TABLECLOTH For the holidays, start with a backdrop of color.  Here, McCarthy opts for a deep plum tablecloth that ri...

Chocolate Lovers Trivia

Image
"YOUR AGE BY CHOCOLATE MATH "  1. First of all, pick the number of times a week that you would like to have chocolate (more than once but less than 10) 2. Multiply this number by 2 (just to be bold)  3. Add 5  4. Multiply it by 50 -- I'll wait while you get the calculator. 5. If you have already had your birthday this year add 1760 .. If you haven't, add 1759. 6.  Now subtract the four digit year that you were born. You should have a three digit number . The first digit of this was your original number (i.e., how many times you want to have chocolate each week). The next two numbers are YOUR AGE! (Oh YES, it is!!!!!) Nothing better than some TIRAMISU with your coffee! Picture from one of my Cook Books. TIRAMISU (Italian Coffee Dessert Cake)  30 Lady Fingers  32 oz. strong black coffee(I use a coconut/hazelnut flavor)  5 fluid oz. of Kahlua-poured into hot coffee  10 oz. whipped heavy cream  16 oz. Mascarpone cheese 1/4 cup cocoa powder 2 oz. ...

Classic Summer Dessert Made Low-Cal

Image
STRAWBERRY Shortcake Low-calorie angel food cake picks up the smoke and char of the grill and is topped with strawberries soaked in balsamic vinegar and black pepper To deliver flavor, the corporate cook relies on hulking scoops of ice cream, oversize brownies, and floods of molten chocolate. The home cook doesn't need such waist-expanding, palate-blunting effects to make dessert memorable. Here, low-calorie angel food cake picks up the smoke and char of the grill and is topped with strawberries soaked in balsamic vinegar and black pepper, an irresistible combination adored throughout northern Italy. Trust us, you'll be hooked. You'll Need: 2 cups sliced strawberries 1/4 cup balsamic vinegar Pinch of freshly cracked black pepper 1 Tbsp butter (optional) 4 wedges angel food cake, each 1" thick Whipped cream How to Make It: *Mix the strawberries, vinegar, and pepper and marinate for 10 to 15 minutes. *Heat a grill, stovetop grill pan, or nonstick saute pan until hot.
